As the 2020 presidential race continues on its helter skelter pace, we arrive at the same question that's asked at almost every presidential election season....is (insert media outlet) biased? Well this season we have seen something, this is put very sarcastically, unprecedented in that CNN has shown clear and basically irrefutable evidence of bias towards presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. On Monday January 13th CNN reporter MJ Lee reported that, according to four anonymous sources, that senator Sanders told Elizabeth Warren that a women could not win the 2020 election despite the fact that Lee continued on to say that these sources were not in the room during said conversation as well as Sanders stating that this is 100% false but CNN went on to report as fact anyway. The next day, during a democratic debate, CNN moderator Abby Phillips asked Sanders if he said that to Warren to which he emphatically stated it was untrue. Phillips then turned to Warren and asked her “What did you think when Senator Sanders told you a woman could not win an election?" completely ignoring Sanders side of the story and asking warren as if the previously refuted topic was true. Throughout the campaign CNN has time upon continued to slander Sanders and misrepresent him. Even their own contributors disagree with their stance. Steve Cortes a pro Trump CNN pundit even went as far as saying “I hope that my network’s clear bias against Bernie Sanders – a candidate espousing policies I abhor – will convince citizens of all ideologies that corporate media figures overwhelmingly forsake journalism in favor of blatant activism,” Supporters and non-supporters a like took to social media to share their disgust with how CNN reported the debate and Sanders as a whole. Even Far-left talking head Samantha Bee had some very negative things to say about CNN's mishandling of the whole situation which can be seen here in a clip of her show. Despite the outcry and the light trending of the #CNNisTrash, CNN talked a lot about what was said at the debate and then posting a headline of the post debate with a one sided statement.
"Over a 24-hour period before, during, and after the debate, CNN bid farewell to what remained of its reputation as a nonpolitical actor via a remarkable stretch of factually dubious reporting, bent commentary, and heavy-handed messaging," Rolling Stone contributing editor Matt Taibbi wrote. Tucker Carlson joined in with a scathing take on the whole affair aimed at CNN president Jeff Zucker. “Zucker poses as a television executive but he operates like a political consultant. His latest client is the Democratic establishment, which has dispatched him to crush Bernie Sanders before he can take control of the party,” Carlson said before airing a montage of CNN personalities bashing Sanders while praising Warren. This is a somewhat dangerous precedent going forward. If heads of media want to can their bias lead to candidates being forced out? Is this the way forward? Can their bias influence voters in a way that those who don't follow the whole story can be easily swayed?
